The Kirby Health Center Laboratory began as a public health laboratory in the 1930′s. The laboratory became involved in environmental testing in the 1970′s when environmental issues became prominent. The laboratory analyzes groundwater, drinking water, municipal and industrial wastewater, soil, sludge, solid waste, and oil for various microbiological, inorganic and organic parameters. Our client base consists of local, state, and federal agencies, engineering firms, environmental consulting firms, financial institutions, industries, and private individuals. |
The laboratory is fully equipped with state-of-the-art instrumentation that is continually updated to stay current with the latest technology. Some of these include: Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometers (AA), Inductively Coupled Plasma (ICP), and Inductively Coupled Plasma/Mass Spectrometer (ICP/MS) for trace metal analyses; Gas Chromatographs (GC) and Gas Chromatograph/Mass Spectrometer (GC/MS) for organic analyses; Ion Chromatograph, BOD AutoEZ, Total Organic Carbon (TOC), and Spectrophotometers for various wet chemistry analyses; Microwaves, Hot Blocks, and MidiVap digestion units for various sample preparations. |
The Kirby Health Center Laboratory is accredited by the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) (Lab #40-0015)for the analysis of drinking water, non-potable water, and solid waste. It is also certified by New York State Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Program (ELAP) (Lab #11801) for Total Coliform, E. coli, and Standard Plate Count analysis in drinking water. |
