The upper west wall of the solarium contains an inlaid tile pediment of The Elements of Nature. The familiar signs of the Zodiac in combination with the spirits of spring and winter are portrayed. The design is most elaborate with a brilliantly gold-finished sun that is two feet nine inches in diameter. It was extremely difficult to assemble and place the individual sections of the design since there are no two pieces with a level surface that could be plumbed and squared.
